So, my Z temp needle got all the way up to the hash mark at the top of the temp scale, it didn't go "off the scale" or past the top mark, but it was sitting on the top mark!! I was running late to pick up this girl in denton(60+ miles away from me) and I was running late, so I had the Z in 4th doing about 85-90 most of the way carving thru light traffic. I had the air on to keep the flowers I had for her from wilting. I had driven about 50 miles and all of a sudden my air quit blowing cold, so I messed w/ the climate control, turned AC on and a couple times thinking WTF? Then glance at my gauges...ZOIKS SCOOB!! Temp all the way up to top mark!! I immediately turned heat on full and slowed to about 55 to still get airflow over radiator. Flowers started to wilt, but that was the least of my worries at the time. Exit the highway and find a service station. Z is hissing, and steaming and has left a trail of coolant where I pulled in, oh no!!! Coolant is boiling away in the radiator and it is bubbling out of the overflow continously on the ground, making trail of fluid running away from the car. I find a rag and crack the rad cap cautiosiously. It puts of tons of steam and sits there and hisses for a good couple mins before I can get close enough to it to finish opening it. As I am leaning down to see where coolant is comming form, my kakhi's touch the freshly cleaned and dressed tire and I get a nice "tire mark" on my pants! Doh!(my first date w/ this girl, and a blind date at that, there goes making a good impression, lol) It took about 1 1/3 gallons to fill it back up again! Doh! I had a gallon jug of water on passenger floorboard and drove the Z up and down a 45 zone to see if temp would drop. It never got below abou 90% hot. Now I am already late to pick her up, debating weather the car will make it to Denton or if I should go home or get it towed. I pull a U-ey and the gallon jug flips over and rolls across the wilted flowers, crushing them!! Doh! I'm thinking this date is going to go horrible if the start of the evening is anything to judge by. I call Julie and tell her I am running late. Car never gets below 85-90% on the temp gauge drivein 10 miles at 55 on the highway with heater on. I get to her apts, knock on door, give her wilted crushed flowers and laugh about it and tell her the situ. Her car got hit and is in the shop, so I am thinking how are we gonna get back to Dallas for our diner date and all if Z is acting up, so I sheepishly say I am too worried to drive my Z(that hurt, lol). She said it was OK, we could take her mom's car. Oh god I'm thinking can I get any lower, lol. She lives in an apt, not at home she was just borrowing mom's car, hehe. We get out to it and it is an E36 BMW convertible! I'm thinking "hey this isn't so bad" and we go out and had the BEST time all evening. Went to the Improv and we got seated right near the commedians and she got picked on by one of them, lol. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time, the whole night was great =) I ended up staying(Z acting up and all, guess something good came of it) overnight, but of course was a complete gentleman =) Didn't get home till about 7PM yesterday, hehe. Anyway, had a totally awesome time with Julie besides the getting there string of small disasters, lol. The car was full of coolant still yesterday when I got up, and it never got over 1/2 on the gauage on the way home(normal operating temp for it). This AM it was still full of coolant, no leaks and was fine all the way to work. So, after all that, what damage could have been caused by it getting that hot and what can I do to check for any damage? Thanks for reading the novel up there ^^,Mike
